Well, I haven't posted about Pullips in a while, so here's a recap of my current dollies and their personalities:
She is Kitty White's roommate. They live in Azabu-Juuban, Tokyo, Japan.
(Miss Kitty White has also appeared in the Chatbox. However, she still knows nothing about what Cardea does outside of the bookstore. Her wiki page is here.)
Why did I post this? Because I need to figure out how Horizon fits in, and I think I may get another doll -- for charity, for charity! She's a gorgeous custom by Requiem named Flower Childe. (Check out the rest of the pictures!) She's a 60's flower girl -- I've already figured out how she'd fit in. If I can get lucky enough to win the auction, she would be about 26 years old, and Carbine's stepmom. She'd be really nice, a little bit ditzy, and totally crazy about kids so she doesn't notice that Carbine's a brat. Oh, and she dreams of being a Bond girl! She loves the 60s and thinks she was born in the wrong era. She absolutely loves the earth, thinks global warming is despicable, and lives as green a life as possible.
Yeah, I really shouldn't get my hopes up about winning her, but at least I'll feel better about my maximum bid being high -- the proceeds are going to charity, and one I very much approve of. Foster Parrots is a bird rescue, adoption, and sanctuary facility. I really can't sum up how much they do in a few sentences -- I suggest reading their mission statement page to understand what they do and why they do it. Parrots are highly intelligent animals and are often treated like feathered hamsters. If you ever want to buy a pet bird, please make sure you know what you're getting into!!
Wish me luck on the Flower Childe auction -- I may be going up against some tough competition. ;) If I don't win, though, I think I'll still make a donation to Foster Parrots. They're an amazing group.
Asashi is going to sell her Horizon and since I was lazy and didn't notice when he came out, I went dutifully trundling off to the Pictionary threads on Pullipstyle to see what he looked like out of the promo pictures, seen below.
Oh. My. Gawd.
photo credits: first is by lovehaze (tag visible in large version) others are by jupiterlilly, both from the Pictionary thread at pullipstyle
He's badass! Why did no one tell me this? All I could focus on was the chickenhair and the manskirt (ew, manskirt) but he's pretty awesome in real life, or as close as you can get on the internet. :P
IF I did end up getting this guy he would be the boyfriend of the Legendary Third Doll, my "surprise custom" who's actually being done by Asashi also. She's a punkyfruitsy colorful girl. I like the idea of the contrast between his grey faceup and her (going-to-be) bright colorful one. He would also have different eyes, either grey or another color (colors?), but that's still an if.
But...I'm just not sure. I'm getting more and more in love with this guy but I'm afraid of jumping into something like this. His stock would probably have to go, as I see him less as an emo kid and more as a guy who just likes to have fun and experiment with stuff. Oh god, I'm giving him a personality, does that mean I have to get him now? XD
I would love to have some other opinions. Is he cool and awesome or just a poser? What do you think?
Dollystuff~~~~!!
Cardea Rialai, my darling original-character Pullip custom, is nearly done!!
Doesn't she look lovely? The minor shine on her face is the last thing to get fixed up and then she's coming home to me! Right now, plasticlove has her all the way in Canada. :O
She was originally an Alte. She's changed a lot since I got her. Ravie swapped her body and eyechips to an Obitsu SBH and lovely turquoise-y blue chips, and now Crys is working on her too! I'm so excited to have her back and totally done.
I did mention that she's an original character, didn't I? Well, she first appeared in the Suburban Senshi Chatbox (if you visit, make sure to say that starcat sent you!) as...Sailor Planet Lesbian Amazon Catgirl! She was originally just designed to be none of those things, and a bookish, totally shy girl. But as I played her more, her story developed...and now she's still shy, but not as jumpy as she used to be. Miss White has helped her a lot, because Miss White loves everyone and doesn't mind when other people are quiet and shy. ^_^ (Yeah, if you visit the chatbox, you're likely to see Miss Kitty White sometimes...the Legendary Third Doll may appear once her look is finalized too, but that's another post ;D) Here's her story, though:
One dark--but totally clear and starry-- night, a tall green-haired man strode up to a small house and rapped impatiently on the door. His green hair was inexplicably wet for the summer night, and he was holding a bundle carefully away from himself so it wouldn't get dripped on. When the door was finally opened by a short black-haired woman, he thrust the ball of blankets at her. "I know you've been considering adopting. I brought her to you. Don't...don't treat her badly, and make sure she grows up safe and happy." The woman, whose name was Shirley Rialai, was naturally confused by this. He offered her the bundle again.
"It's...a baby?" she asked. It was clear she didn't understand the situation. "A baby for us?"
"Yes. She's healthy, normal, has all her shots. One month old." The green-haired man gave her the baby and fished around in his coat for a folder, which he opened to reveal a birth certificate. "You can have this too. She deserves a birthday."
Shirley looked at the soundly-sleeping babe in her arms and looked up at the man again. "What's her name?"
"Cardea. Cardea Rialai." He slipped inside to put the certificate -- already filled out with her name, curiously enough-- on the hall table. Just as quickly, he slipped out, nodded to Shirley, and walked off into the darkness. Shirley watched him go for a minute. Then she closed the door behind her and called out to her wife.
"Dannie...? We've got company..."

STUFF I DIDN'T ADD IN BECAUSE I AM LAZY AND WILL WRITE LATER also I want to get back to Ragnarok Online:
1. Cardea is a baby from the future. (She grows up in the present, though.)
2. Cardea loves tea.
3. Cardea wears glasses!
...er, um...
I'll write more later. XD; Ask questions in the comments so I know what gaping holes I left!
Amy Adams carried a tiny mesh purse with a golden bird on it and a Giselle doll to the red carpet for not just any awards show, but the Academy Awards.
That's so cool. If I ever get to an awards show like that you can bet one of my dolls will be going with me, even if it's just Carbine-chan! :D
Dang, I hate that dress code. I've got to go to Hancock's Fabric this weekend and get more cloth so I can make more skirts! We need cute at school, not boring normal clothes and too-tight skanky stuff!
PS: The shirt underneath it is my Inconcievable! shirt from ThinkGeek. Mmm...Sicilians...
I have had no opportunity this week, now that I'm unbusy, to take pictures. x_x It's been raining pretty much nonstop and my helpermonkeys aren't available to take pictures of me...
I've added some Pullip pictures, though. (I managed to get those by myself.) They're for the RequiemArt.com Miss World Domination 2008 pageant. Cute, no? The tiny one is Carbine-chan. She's Miss White's cousin. She also has an army of Mini Bratz...<_<
You can see the ground is wet even here. :(
Yep, it's time for another post about the fantabulous Tracy! She sent me a cheongsam (?) -- one of those pretty chinese dresses-- for Miss White, along with some little hairclips, some shoes (I'm going to find an outfit just for those cute li'l shoes!), and a poodle! I haven't decided what to name the poodle, 'cause I wasn't sure if Tracy had already named it...but it's definitely cute, and Miss White was so happy to have her own friend. ^_^
So, they went outside together. I don't have a great deal of poses (the weather was looking icky and I'm still learning) but I got a few good pictures from my photoshoot.
Oh, and I am still working on getting pictures of my homecoming dress! ;D Don't worry, I haven't forgotten!
So last week I had a Halloween party. I received Miss Kitty White, my darling Hello Kitty Pullip, earlier in the week. I love to sew costumes and I knew the costume I would be wearing at the party would be simple to scale down. I didn't want to deal with the extra hassle of the corselet and (unseen here) accessories.
So, I made her a black chemise and orange skirt! The skirt tutorial is forthcoming.
Since I made my big version from the chemise and skirt patterns on reddawn.net, I decided to use these as a base for my Pullip patterns.
I actually started writing down the measurements wrong, which is why 2 comes first. They are as follows:
1. Shoulder to Knee (which is actually just however long you want it)
2. Shoulder to Shoulder (don't change this measurement!)
3. Shoulder to Wrist (This is for long sleeves, you could change it if you wanted)
Now it's time to draft the pattern! "Pattern?" I hear you cry, having thoroughly read the Dawn's Pages tutorial for big people. "They didn't use a pattern there!" Well, no, they're big people and it doesn't matter so much if you fudge an inch or so. For tiny folks like Pullip dolls, there isn't much room for error -- and besides, the patterns can fit on a sheet of printer paper.
The sleeve rectangle should be 4" by 2" (I guessed on the 2, which is why it's circled) and the body rectangle should be 8" by 4.75". I also added half an inch to two sides of the body rectangle, bringing it to 8.5" by 5.25". Just a quarter inch gets added to the sleeve (for fuller sleeves, increase the short side measurement) for final dimensions of 4.25" x 2.2.5".
Now, cut them out and lay them to your fabric like any other pattern. Cut two fabric pieces from each paper piece. Set aside the pattern and take a peek at your fabric. It's time to start marking so you can sew!
So now you've got two body rectangles. Pick which way is up (hint: it's one where the short sides are top and bottom) and mark your corners. Turns out 3/4" is a great seam depth for Pullips. You'll need to sew diagonally across the corners, so I just marked squares and drew across. Hey, it works.
If you don't have a nifty chalk pencil, don't worry. Use a washable marker (and test it first to make sure it will really wash out) or a regular pencil, and mark away. If you're still not sure, just eyeball it, but try to err on the larger side, if anything. ;)
If you've got it marked, it's ready to sew! Now is a good time to check out the chemise tutorial again, as it explains things more clearly. That, and I forgot to take pictures of the step after this one..
Just put the sleeves rectangles on, matching the corners, and sew across. I hand-sewed the entire chemise in white thread, but machine-sewing would work a lot better, especially for this step. Hand-sewing adds a cute touch, though, especially in a contrasting color thread.
The next step is to flip up the sleeves and attach the other body piece. It's a bit tricky to get it right, and you may have to do it once or twice before you position it correctly. I did. >_>; I found that doing one sleeve at a time worked better than trying to finagle both.
So now you have a weird open crossy-looking thing! What's next? Fold it over and sew it together!
If you've sewn it together right, you should be able to make seams like L-shapes from the sleeves to the body. Sew about 1/4th of an inch from the edge. This is a pretty forgiving garment, even on such a small scale, so don't worry if your hand-sewing isn't super-straight.
If you've got this done, it's time to hem the top to make the casing! Fold over from the right side 1/4th of an inch of fabric and pin it in place. Unlike most of the other parts of the chemise, this really could use some pins. Sew it close to the raw edge of the fabric and try to keep it straight. If you've machine-sewn, you can unpick some of the stitching so you have open holes in the hem. This will make it a lot easier to thread the cord through to gather it.
So here's what it should look like:
Yay! It's all pretty and smooth at the top! Now just thread some thin cord or strong thread through the casing you made, pull it tight, and you can see what it looks like on a doll. Kinda. If you have a good imagination. Wait, that's not really very good at all...besides, the sleeves are still too long.
For the sleeves, you follow the same sort of instructions as for hemming the top. I folded the ends down 1/2" but it was still a bit long. 5/8" would work if you wanted longer sleeves, 3/4" would probably look more natural.
There are two ways you can sew the sleeves.
The first is the l
The second way, not pictured, is to sew two seams with a hole in the middle so you can put cord/thread in and gather it. It'd make a puffier sleeve.
If you don't already have cord or thread, put it in. I doubled my sewing thread and pulled my needle through the casings to make it stronger.
Now that you've got the sleeves and top hemmed, it's time to check the length. Try it on your doll, or the closest doll you have, and take a peek!
(Tip: let the neckhole relax so you can get it over the hips. Then tighten it so it fits at the shoulders once it's on!)
And here it is! I think it looks better with a ribbon or a skirt to keep some waist definition. I didn't hem this at all, since I wanted it loooong, but hemming the skirt is just like the sleeves or the top. The only real difference is that you should trim the extra (if it's a lot) outside of the seam.
Now, because I was going to be wearing a hoopskirt, I put Hello Kitty Pullip's stock petticoat under the chemise for extra poof.
It looks more Renaissance-y now! Hooray! Ideally I'd use a longer petticoat or a hoopskirt, but this was kinda quick and dirty, so it was just fine.
The skirt tutorial should be coming soon! Hope this can come in handy for some of you! :)
How to use the newly-made garment: it works great as a nightgown or Renaissance undergarment. It's fun to layer under long skirts and jewelry -- it would make a good gypsy costume base, especially when paired with the skirt.
Enjoy! :D If you use this to make a chemise, please leave a comment or e-mail me to let me know! <3
It's Miss Kitty White! Hoorah!
It's my first try at a photo story. I love how posable she is! Oh -- the Hello Kitty doll she has in the third picture up top was sent to me by the lovely Tracy! She was also, of course, the one to show me the picture of my darling Hello Kitty Pullip. <3 Hooraaaaay~!
I found my camera!
Bad news:
My dress hasn't been cleaned yet, so no photoshoot for a while. :( It's in the wash now, so provided my Hello Kitty Pullip doesn't arrive tomorrow and totally distract me, I'll get pictures then!
