Do you ever do something that makes you go "oh my god how did this happen, I was so STUPID"?
I did that.
This weekend I decided to finally use my birthday gift cards to Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. $25 to Amazon.com bought me the English Gothic and Lolita Bible and the Go Fug Yourself book. Pretty sweet, right? I zipped through the ordering process happily and went on to Barnes and Noble, where I got Excel Saga 17, the Crimson Fairy Book, the Indexed book, a replacement copy of Dark Lord of Derkholm, and a book called Elsewhere. All in all, not bad for $75 total. I ended up paying a little extra at Amazon for shipping but I didn't mind.
Today I got the cheery little email from Amazon telling me that my order was shipped and this completes my order. "AWESOME!" I cried, until I saw something that plummeted my soul into darkness.
I shipped it to my friend in New York instead of myself in Louisiana.
A terrifying realization dawned as I figured out what I did...you see, the first item I bought on my Amazon.com account went to her. So, it thinks that's my default address. I'd begun to check out with the G&L Bible and the Indexed book but changed my mind halfway through and went back to replace it with GFY. I'd changed the address that time. I forgot to pick mine the second. >.<
Now I'm waiting impatiently and slightly scaredly. I spent most of the rest of my money today on books and a Zelda T-shirt and the rest on a birthday gift for my other, nearby friend. I don't think I COULD cover shipping back to me if she needed me to pay. and of course, the worst part is that it's all my fault. >.<
AGH THIS DAY HAS JUST BEGUN SUCKING. T____T at least there's only an hour left in it.
OMG. Wow it's been quite a while since my last post...well, I've been busy with the end of the semester, so please forgive me. *bows*
Thursday, April 12: Continued
After the trip to Michael's, we went ahead to the hotel. There were plenty of congoers there already, and I chatted with a few. Everyone was relaxed and getting ready to have three days of fun. Even the staff wasn't too wound up! After unloading the car and unpacking a little bit, I put on my petticoat and went to Panera Bread for dinner. When we got back to the hotel, it was time to pick up the pre-reg stuff! One of the MTAC photographers took my picture while I was in the (short) line! Wooo~. Sadly those pictures aren't online yet (one more reason why this is delayed) so I don't have anything to show, but I will post them as soon as I can. I talked to more people in line. There was supposed to be more things to do, but they were still setting up, so I returned to the room to work on my collar and leotard.
Friday, April 13
I woke up around 8:30 when my friend Egg called me to talk about our MTAC plans. I got up, dressed in my Madame in Lace costume, and went downstairs for the first panel of the day, an origami workshop. I never got there. (I later found out that its time had been moved, but still too late.) I started taking pictures in the hallway between the convention center bit and the hotel, and didn't stop taking pictures for several hours. I met a few nice cosplayers in the course of my pictures (Leslie, I think her name was, was Sailor Mercury and there was a Tamama! Woo!) so when the Mercury asked if I wanted to go stand in the dealer room line with her because her group had extra "slots" on their preregistered confirmation (from 11 to about 1 was a special prereg-only dealer's room~), I said yes. Went in, got the full Excel Saga figure set and Priceless 2. I didn't want to spend too much on the first day, though, so I wandered around a bit more, then left.
I've renamed it to be more accurate. :) It actually stands for Middle Tennessee Anime Convention, of course, but this con (like all conventions) had its ups and downs. Here is my story.

Woke up a little later than planned, but it wasn't too bad. There really wasn't a whole lot of rush anyways. I packed the car and checked my e-mail while waiting for my mom to be ready to go. We hopped in the car around 10:15, went to McDonald's for breakfast, and then stopped by the house again to pick up her car cell phone charger. At 10:30, we actually left the house -- an hour and a half after we'd planned.
It was a mostly uneventful trip. I took pictures along the way, as it was a pretty day, and even kept seeing signs for "Excel Home Phone Service" at one point. $29.95 for pre-paid phone sounds interesting...maybe ACROSS has gone lower underground than I thought. ;) It took almost exactly 8 hours to get to Memphis, and another 40 minutes to get to my mom's friend's house. Once there, we ate dinner and I worked on my gloves until midnight.

Finished my gloves in the morning and got dressed in my Blue & White Lolita. We left Memphis about twelve-fifteen and got to Cool Springs about three hours later - right on time! We zipped into Michael's to pick up a ribbon for my neck (I'd forgotten to pack mine, oops) and headed over to the hotel to check in.
==More later. Apologies this didn't come sooner.==
I think I'm giving up the dyeing-to-match thing. >< I'm going to buy an Enchantment in Femme and just style it from there, cutting in bangs and cutting short the ponytail bits.
Sigh. I wish I didn't have to spend MORE money, but I just CAN'T get the extensions right. They're too light, too dark, or I get it right and then the dye hates me the next day and doesn't get the same color.
I can't decide if I should get this first or get the leotards(there's only a ten-dollar difference between the two). Either way, I'm not giving up on my Femme Fatale! :)
Presenting...my secondary (maybe tertiary!) cosplay for MTAC Prime, Rinslet Walker!
Wish me luck, please?
I got to Wal-Mart, and although they didn't have Straight Outta Lynwood, I did manage to pick up a better comb and some useful hairpins.
My wigs(one purple, one cutting practice) were due to be delivered today, but the UPS person didn't want to leave them at my doorstep.
Even though I didn't get my wigs today, I got some supplies.
A comb I'll use just for my wigs and cheap Aquanet hairspray: just what I need for a spiky ponytail!
I'll probably get a different comb later tonight though.
It's the beginning of the end! ...of a world without Elgala cosplays.
My name is starcat, and I want to cosplay as Elgala for MTAC Prime.
